Greenway Planning
Greenways are corridors of protected open space that follow natural features, such as a river, or are manmade along areas such as abandoned rail lines. Greenways provide habitat for wildlife, help protect water quality, and provide protection from flooding in high-risk areas. In addition, greenways add to the quality in an area by providing recreational opportunities, alternative transportation options, and economic benefits to surrounding communities. Some greenways are publicly owned, some are privately owned, and some are the result of public/ private partnerships. Many are open to visitors, while others are not.
