Message From the Director

Welcome to the University of Maryland Environmental Finance Center!  We are very proud to have a beautiful new site where we can showcase our work serving communities throughout Region 3 - Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia.

In the past five years, we have made a home in Preinkert Field House on the University’s College Park campus, just down the corridor from the National Center for Smart Growth and our sister centers.  Collaboration with these centers and other organizations on campus allows us to bring university resources to bear on the challenge of financing watershed protection and restoration work in the region.

At the core of the EFC’s work is informing and improving the capacity of local decision-makers to analyze environmental problems, developing innovative and effective methods of financing environmental efforts, and educating communities about the role of finance and economic development in the protection of the environment.  Our focus areas are designed to address the challenges communities in our region currently face, as illustrated by the development of our recently launched Stormwater Financing and Outreach Unit and our Agriculture Financing Unit.   These new units round out a collection of water and air quality programming, which includes our highly successful Sustainable Maryland Certified program, that will likely continue to expand and evolve as the communities we serve are asked to do more with less, making efficient and effective financing strategies even more critical.

Thanks for visiting our website and please contact us if we can help your community!
